Liquid Group

A reader posted “I would consider adding an entry for It’s Liquid Group run by Luca Curci. Mr Curci would typically put out open calls to artists exhibit works as part of a festival with no mention of a entry/ submission or participation fee. Artists would send work to be considered for inclusion and they would often receive a response from Mr Curci, asking for a fee ranging from €50 to €200 (sometimes even more) for each work that has been submitted. Such fees are never mentioned in the original open call. I have included some links below which go…

Lowe’s Gallery

Submitted by a reader, any other feedback  experience? Lowe’s Gallery in Atlanta (run by Bill Lowe) is notorious for not paying artists . They were even raided by Police for this in 2015 and have also been sued numerous times by artists whose work they sold and yet didn’t pay. Incredibly, they are still in business…

Freight + Volume Gallery

a reader sent in this post, any other feedback? 97 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002 Had a piece in a show back in 2013 and the Gallery purchased it but never sent me a payment. Had many emails back and forth and had to go into the gallery multiple times asking for a status of my check but everyone claimed not to know anything about it or why the payment is missing. The gallery has had a reputation in the past for stiffing upcoming artists.

Gallery 212

A reader sent this in “Gallery 212, Wynwood, Miami Florida I walked into the gallery last spring to see if they were looking at new artists work. I was told they were but here was the deal. It costs $900 a month to hang work on the walls. But in November and December during Art Basel Basel, the price is $3,200 a month. The gallery is located on the corner of 24th Street and 2nd Avenue. The main drag through Wynwood to all the fairs is Miami Avenue. 2nd Avenue is two long block or four shorter blocks west of…

A reader submitted this, “Sarah Merrick curated a show a couple of years ago (in Newark, New Jersey) in which she did not returned two of my paintings. I have attempted repeatedly to get them back and but she does not respond to my attempts. I have been told by one other participating artist that she did not return his painting as well.” Anyone else?

Canada House Gallery

A reader sent this in, please add to this if you have experience here “I’ve been working with many galleries for years and have had amazingly wonderful experiences. Most treat their artists very well. It isn’t easy being a gallery owner with all the expenses and difficulties. Having said that, I would not deal with Canada House Gallery in Banff Alberta, after being treated in a very unfair manner in my opinion. I say this with a heavy heart because I would never say anything bad about a gallery unless I felt that I have been deeply wronged.”

Artisan Direct

An artist sent this in, any other comments? “Artisan Direct. Never deal with these people, especially Jayson Samuels. He’s an ex con who changed his name because he was convicted of fraud. You pay big time upfront for the exhibition, and the work might not even be displayed. After I asked for my work back, he lied and said he didn’t have it. I had to get a lawyer- the art came back but some pieces were damaged.”
