Context art gallery, Venice. AKA Marco Patrizio

I have recently been scammed by Marco Patrizio, running context art gallery in Venice, Italy.
He asked for money (to cover exhibition costs and framing) in return for representing me. I sent two large pieces of art which i sell for around £1000 each.
Since sending the funds and works I’ve had no further dealings with him – he’s clearly blocked me, not responding to emails, or message replies.

It’s only now i understand he is a regular scammer – this time contacting me through instagram via Context Art Gallery.

I accept i lost my money (more fool me) but i’d really like my art work back.

Any ideas about how to do this would be great

Do NOT have any dealings with this man or his so called gallery!!!!!

He took 3 pieces of my work and I’ve wanted them back for years. He is the worst. He told me I would be in a show in Milan and I flew over for the show. Then he told me there was a bacteria outbreak and my show was cancelled but he would be in Switzerland and I could come to that show there. I did and I met him and he did not have my artwork there. I asked him where it was and he said it was at his gallery. I have a picture with him. Such a shame. I loved those pieces.

I also have been scammed by Marco Patrizio two year ago, running context art gallery in Venice, Italy.

The real art world doesn’t work like that. There are of course some rare exceptions, but usually the artist does not pay rent for the gallery space or any expenses, but the gallery takes 50% of the sales. Please educate yourself or you will end up just losing money.

I can’t believe I am reading these reports. Artists – always have consignment agreements signed by both parties spelling out clear terms and who gets paid what and when. Never pay for exhibitions or transport of works. That is why the gallery takes 50 percent of sales to cover those expenses. It is their business to sell the work. Always checkout the background of the gallery before you commit – especially if you are sending works abroad.

right, and have those galleries made sales for you? Likely the answer is no, because when you pay t be in a gallery their incentive to sell is gone because they already have their money

Report them to Action Fraud online. They have scammed so many people. I have met a few on IG. Most have found themselves without art or money. Someone has to stop them

The same happened to me. I even went there visiting in May last year – he seamed nice enough then and took my artworks to one exhibition – all other terms in the contract has been ignored for two years and also now he has not replied for a year and blocked me. Feel so stupid!

I also got scammed by him last year. Sent two small works to Italy from Korea and asked for money after he received my works. I asked the inquiry to Korea Embassy in Milan. According to them, the Korean Embassy In Italy received several scam reports about the Context art gallery but that gallery is on business and exists in Venise therefore only method I can do is bring passport to visit police in Padova Italy 🙁 shame.
