1340 Art Magazine

Does anyone know anything about 1340Art Magazine. I was contacted by Carolyn Tate to enter some of my images in a competition to be included in the print version of the magazine. It says ‘small payment required’ but not what it is exactly. First contact was made through instagram. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience with them. Thanks

im on this boat i just got an email from a lisa something something and thougt itd be good to look it up real quick… lol well that was disappointing, but good to know

      • Ish

It appears Lisa has been very busy I received an email from her as well. I am utterly grateful that you all cared enough to share because I almost took the plunge and submitted. This learnt me well, I’ll be more weary of emails that sound too good to be true from now on. “Lisa” wrote that the last day to submit is on the 31st if she’s a bot well they’ve come a long way from the good old AOL IM days. Well I hope you all enjoy your evening and once again thank you.

I was also recently contacted by them.
Naturally, I felt pride and uploaded my art to the link in their IG(with my sign and Instagram handle). A few days later they tell me that I’ve “advanced” to the final round. I sent them a round of question so and it sent back an automated email listing off their work hours.
I then clicked on the link they’d sent me. Now that I’m reading this forum, I find it weird that the price they gave me was 10.00 dollars for submission of one, and 30.00 for four. I think I’ll still play interested for a while. I’ll keep y’all updated

Well I got a comment from somebody called Lisa Harris and wonder if it is a scam or not, try searching them up and no one called Lisa Harris 1340 art showed up so it is possibly a scam and seriously who asked money to put our art work into magazines.

But sadly when I first recieved the email I was like all of you too, so I paid $20 for one artwork, and after seeing this site, I think is too late, but is there anyway to get a refund, if do please Help me

      my instagram @do.bonny

I get “DM’s” or comments on occasion since I started IG. I have turned down one in the past because I eventually hear of fake follower boosts and wasn’t sure. Scam or not, they need to broadcast upfront; explain the whole “hey we can advertise your stuff for so much money” or in the beginning say they take a percentage for every link directed sale of one’s work(commission). I still don’t know wether they are legit-Lisa, curator, etc. my way is slow and unrecognized, which is doing what I love and having 1-3 followers a week plus numerous likes than to chance it with an anonymous magazine that I still can’t fully research. Good luck to you

    • Meshey Paints

I was contacted last night by a Sharon Renkema from the same magazine. They posted they like my art and would like to publish in their magazine. I did visit the website and made a submission…there were no fees associated with this submission. I don’t know if this is legitimate or not. Anyone else have the same experience? Thank you.

      • John Kam

Meshey, I got the same comment, dmed her on insta and even submitted on their website. But I think this could be a scam, and it’s very close to what people has been saying earlier on but by a different “curator”

      • j

I also received from Sharon Renkema, very strange everything especially when I see you all received the message but when I look at their website there is no address etc.

      • chichi

I got contacted by Sharon Renkema too from their magazine. They said that my art was entered into the next and final selection-round of their competition to be featured in the printed version of the January 2019 edition of the magazine.

But I feel weird because the deadline is October 31, 2018 and my art already publish in that website on July 2018.

        • Anonymous

Same thing. IG msg Love your work, then I sent something new and got what I think was a bot or a very inexperienced person saying artwork needs to be centred. Mine was oddly balanced like I like it sometimes.
got to the money bit and a lawyer friend read it and said no it has to be a scam.

I’ve seen bits of ppls work but the magazine seems not so easy to get, if they’ve been approaching all us artists all year there should be lots to see.

Then this week they emailed me telling me deadlines were closing soon and they’d like me to submit.

Somebody down in the comments section said

Hi Terry, Juried art exhibitions are very common and are held by reputable groups but it’s important to make sure the organization hosting those juried exhibitions is legitimate. Juried exhibitions that are above board have a few important characteristics: 1) they are being put on by an organization with some type of quantifiable legitimacy i.e. a 501c nonprofit, an accredited university, or a museum or gallery that is part of a network of other well-known galleries 2) the juror of the exhibition is, in their own right, an established artist with a resume and exhibition history, 3) the juried competition does not have “tiers” with offers to pay more money to submit detail shots of your work and hopefully get a better chance. It’s also important to note that artists seek out those exhibitions through various networks and connections and that it is rare to be invited to pay to be part of an exhibition or publication. This publication has lots of red flags. Unfortunately, scams and unethical practices are rampant everywhere and it appears that these folks are using buzzwords like “curator” and “juried” to make their scam seem more legit.’

      • Tiffany

Scam! Stay away! They have a system of people all around the world scamming artists who are starting out, they have tons of alibis and all different names, accounts, emails, they are one of the most successful scams around the world … report and block them and share with your Instagram art friends to protect them from this scam. They ask for a small enough fee so that people don’t suspect and don’t matter if it’s only $20-$30 but imagine thousands of artists paying that? Please share and let others know they just want your money. Sorry.

    • Mary

Check out this video for details of the scam. They won’t post your pictures on instagram, you will pay them a fee and them be entered in a ‘competion’ to appear on their website LICENSED FREE!

    • Anonymous

Yes it is a track. I have been contacted by them on Instagram on Dec 16h and they pretend to choose new artist for the January 2019 edition ! so they leave you only 4 days to decide to pay for apply until the dead line December 21st. I think it is not worth. They stress you and will you pay the fees as soon as possible instead of really offering to the artist a chance to be published in their issue. The “curator” name for me was Sharon. I think that a very large number of people are contacted this way but paying fees just to (eventually, we have no proof) have our art be juged is nonsense.

    • Anonymous

Yeah I got an email from them today about entering to be in their April magazine. I got so so so excited, told all my friends and family too, just to go into the Internet and see that everyone says it’s a scam.

  • Claire-Elise Harris

Thank you for all these comments… in effect it doesn’t sound right. Had the same approach and was also skeptical when I saw we had to pay… so there we are… would have been nice… mind you I have a naive painting style, so no wonder I nearly got caught! Good luck to all of you who would like to be an artist… Let’s keep believing in ourselves!

I fell for this trap and paid 2 times to submit 4 images each time before I read this review.
I sent them an email and said I wanted a refund which they honored- I think they may realize people are pissed.
I don’t have time nor extra money to be jerked or scammed and it was disappointing to read this is a scam. They troll on IG and find all of us talented people trying to make this art life work.

    • Maya

Hey did you hoy your money back? I just emailed them as I fell for it as well. I’m so pissed off, plus I don’t have the money or time..

      • Terry

Just received an email from 1340 saying that their magazine is now available and featured artist Helga Hohn-Heilberg. Their featured cause is MADaboutART. Wish I could upload the email.

    • Arissa

Hi! May I know what you mentioned in the email to get the refund? I’m just finding out that this is a scam & I’m trying to get my money back too. Thanks

    • Arissa

Hi! May I know what you included in your email to get the refund? I just found out it’s a scam and I’m trying to get my money back. Thanks!

  • SJ

    Hi,

I was contacted by one of their ‘curators’ via a post I made on Instagram. I went to their website to check out the fine print, and their terms and conditions mention sub-licensing artwork which was a big red flag. Be careful of giving away the rights to your work. At the very least the other party should be paying the artist to license their work and a contract should be involved detailing usage rights. It also looks like 1340 may be in Amsterdam (I’ve heard they’ve mentioned other countries as well though) which could make copyright issues tricky if an artist is based in another country.

  • @gaillardissime

    Hi
I have gone through the same experience all of you have related. When I got to the point of being ”invited” to pay to have my work reviewed I got curious and suspicious. First of all no geographical address on their website or FB. After googling them I got no more info than this very forum. One of the 1rst thing I did to find out if they were legit is subscribe to their newsletter. You wont be surprised if I tell you it doesn’t work, there’s no newsletter. Their blog isn’t a blog at all, it’s their collection of artists. Has anyone gone further with this and actually paid to have their work features ? I won’t be their ginea pigs.
Thanks to all of you who have shared their experiences. As artists we have to stick together, especially against people who try to take advantage of us. It’s hard enough to create, and do it well.
    Cheers

  • A

Me too. In payed 29.00 dollar for enter with 1,artwork.
Asking enter with 3 at 39.00 dollars .
after said you have passed the 1 selection.
Enter with more artwork paying moore money.
    I have ignored.
But i amvery sure now is a scam.

  • David

Same thing for me, I was recently contacted through Instagram by 1340zoe asking if I’d be interested in submitting my work to be featured on their Instagram page. I did, then received a direct email from Carolyn Tait Curator 1340ART magazine stating: I was just reviewing the Instagram submission you did recently. Based on the quality of your artwork I would like to invite you to
enter our magazine competition! etc. etc. As soon as I clicked on the form link and read that it would cost me a fee to submit my work; $20 for 1 artwork or $30 for 4 artworks (what a deal!!) I was immediately suspicious and of course disappointed because red flags were flying. Which in turn led me here after googling 1340 Gallery etc. looking for other comments / info regarding this and if it was a scam. Sure seems like a lot of artists are saying the same thing. Scam! Dammit, burst my bubble!! 😉

    • Terry

I was just looking at a website for a state (I won’t say which one) which is run by artist and noticed that several of the open calls for artist require payments. Just wondering if this is going to be the norm now?

      • Jo

        • Kasaundra K

Hi there! So I JUST got a comment on my Instagram by someone called @curratornancy saying that she’s a currator for the 1340art magazine and wants me to submit to be featured…I’m not sure if this is real or not…is 1340 just a scam in general? I’m always skeptical about all instagram art magazine platforms, so I don’t know if i should even submit my work in case they get stolen.

    • veronica

Same here. One of their curators commented on my artwork post on instagram, saying how they “loved” my art and wanted to present it on their main page and asked me to clik the link on their bio if I was interested. So I did, but I didn’t really trust them asap, so I sent a pic of my art taken in a weird angle, with art supplies and clutter around it. I didn’t send a printable thing. Then they emailed me asking for “more examples” of my work for a chance to be on their magazine cover. It suddenly turned out it was a competition with a $30 entrance fee ! LMAO. They send no-reply emails so you can not email them back, even if you do, they don’t respond. Anyways, I went back on instagram, found the curator who originally contacted me and send pm’ed them. I asked 300$ from them to let them use my art on their stupid magazine. LOL
      It IS a scam.

      • Esha

I’ve been contacted by a SHARON RENKEMA and an AMY SMEET both not bringing up costs but pressuring me to fill out the submission form that asks for money. None of these ppl respond back to emails and no 2 emails are from the same ppl. When I checked them out online, none of these names were cited as staff. I haven’t given them any money, I am very disappointed at having been toyed with, but will not give them more work without asking for their money. TrustPilot is a site also with a forum about this: FULL OF PLANTS! They’re trying to get your money- don’t give it to them. It’s revenue-generating for them to fill their publication with our work – now we have to pay them on top of that? I don’t think so. SCAM ALERT. Find me @esha5055 on IG to discuss this further folks! We should start our own online gallery- it’s not anything real anyways – fuck could be a collective IG account even… but no more 1340 Art Magazine nonsense for me.

  • sisa

    hi!
same same..get suspicious when they told me to pay..and googled Carolyn Tait name and found this web site… so i d put scam on the instantgram page..didn t pay but i ll write an email back to mr Carolyn Tait!
    tanks to share information-doubts-!tanks comunity!

  • Tarko

They contacted me also through instagram and later through email also. I was very suspicius. After these comments I am pretty sure that it is a scam. Did anyone had positive experience with this “‘curator ” and magazine?
    please let me know….

  • Jo

I was contacted and pretended to bite waiting to see what happened. So far I’ve been acting interested enough that “Carolyn Tait” is messaging me back trying to get me on the hook. With every reply I’m becoming more and more positive that this is a scam.

I also saw an instagram account called @1340veraena comment on a piece of street art that one of my followers posted. It is clearly a photograph of something she snapped walking around the Wynwood Art District in Miami and her post is tagged in that location. Regardless, “Verena” commented the same copypaste message about “being interested in her work.” The @1340verena account has only sixteen posts at the time of this writing and was only created in November.

I’m pretty positive this is a scam. Beware!

    • Gar Benedick

Hello! I, too, was contacted via IG about featuring my art. Curious, so I did register my info with them and now await a response.

Since there appears to be a number of people here that would like to have their art shown in different places, I wanted to share with you a website that may be of assistance. It is the California Arts Council. Their web address is: arts.ca.gov . On this site under the menu Opportunities, there is a link to Artist Calls. There you will find a long list of places to be able to submit your art. Yes, most of them require a fee in order to enter. Some of them are online and some of them are in a physical location. And most of them are within United States. I haven’t seen too many that were international.

You see I’m in the same position. I’m in emerging artist and I’m looking for places to be able to show my art. My thinking is to enter competitions where the juror(s) are people I want to see my art. These jurors are artist, gallery owners, curators and collectors. The more of these I get my work in front of, the more likely I am to have someone “discover me“.

This is my first time at the site. I don’t know how often I will return here, however, if someone wants to reply to this post or would like more information, please go ahead and reply since I have noted that I want to be notified by email if anyone does replied to this post.

Best to all of you Artist! There is always someone out there that will love your art. Be passionate about it and don’t give up.

      Thank you for listening!

      Enjoying life!
      Gar

  • Mcbooerson

It’s a scam/pay for play; I’ve called them out, was scammed and told them that my work is copyrighted and that in order to work with me they have to pay me, not vice versa. They are clowns sending out mass emailing to artists. I’m on instagram @mcbooerson

  • Raul

You can also check their IG page now where there is an image of the mag and comments from the selected artists. So my conclusion is that is not a scam but to me is a rip-off.
Hope this help to new artists out there to be aware of what is going on.
    Good luck.
    @sr.raulito

  • Raul

This is a copy of the last email I received. It seems genuine to me although it feels a bit on the same line… Scam or not?

    Dear itsasunnyday,

We’ve received hundreds of submissions for the Q2 edition of 1340 ART Magazine. It was not an easy task for our jury to make a selection from all these entries.

Unfortunately, we need to inform you that your submission has not been chosen to be featured in this edition of the magazine.

Upon reviewing your portfolio, however, we really liked your work and think it is of a high standard. We would, therefore, love to represent you in our online gallery (normally registration fee is $49/year) and offer you a FREE plan for 1 year. We also won’t take any commission on the final sale price of any of your art. We believe that the artist has the right to keep all profits from their work, so there are no hidden costs.
If interested, please upload your work using the following link: http://www.1340gallery.com/register/

The magazine will be published and available from 1 April. As a thank you for your entry, you will receive the online version for free ($9.95 normally).

You can download your free edition here:

    https://issuu.com/1340art/docs/q2_2018

The printed version can be bought online here.

Remember, we have a call for entries every quarter and you are more than welcome to submit new work for our next edition coming July 2018 (check website for details).

    Regards,

    Team 1340Art Magazine

      Hi,
I have received the same email, and I was wandering it its a scam or not. They seem to work with artist who are legit (after a google search I found about about them from different sources). Although I know must submissions for magazines are free, I do not think that is red flag for a scam, still a bit skeptical, especially after reading this..Have you found out?
      Thanks ,
      catrinel

  • Raul

    Hi again.
A note to be fair. The guys approached me again to tell me I wasn’t selected in the next issue of the mag. The whole thing seems to me not to be a scam. The mag is appearing in a couple of days. Had a reply from the team. All seems to be legal.

My only disagreement is about the way I was brought into them, how I misinterpreted the rules. I didn’t like I had to pay to enter a competition and not even received a copy in paper of the mag.

I have participated in other publications with an image and a fare to get a copy. In this case I paid 30$ just to enter a competition. I will never do it again. Honestly I felt coned.

  • Matylda Mccormack-Sharp

Hi! They contacted me and I submitted an illustration since they didn’t ask for anything other than name/email/art and it was free so I thought it would be fine even if it wasn’t legit, but now I’m a little annoyed at myself – do you think I should do anything or will I be ok since I didn’t give any other details?

    • Perry

I did the same thing. I feel a bit hurt since I’m new to posting my stuff after my friends finally convinced me to do it for so long. Now, I feel so stupid and naive.

  • Gaz

    Hi Everyone,

I have been contacted on IG by Zoe, now I have been contacted by Carolyn Tait via email. I am no position to be paying for competitions anyway. But would like to keep up todate with this forum as it is a bit of a concern. This is the first time that I have received the email and the IG message so was quite excited, but then it seemed to good to be true. So I just want to find out the truth, all the messages have been the same as people have listed above.

  • Justin

I Reported the Insta account and the damn account disapeared in about 2 seconds flat. they also tried to get my work/ get me to buy into the scam but i guess they’ll learn next time. its because they have stated (free) and then take work and or allow you to think they are going to host you via mag / or in public and then send an EMAIL confirmation including this:

Thank you for your submission! We receive hundreds of submissions every day. For that reason, we are unable to share all submitted works.

Even though your artwork was preselected, we will only post images of a certain quality. Your submission should be in high resolution and photographed from the front.

If your work is selected, you will be tagged in our post, so you will receive a notification from Instagram after your work has been posted.

Our Instagram team is always looking for new talent for our printed magazine (competition), Blog and Youtube channel (our other opportunities). Please note, that you might be approached by them directly.

    Thank you for your trust!

    Regards,

    Carolyn Tait

Search 1340 on insta and an infinite amount of accounts with “workers or team members” names appear at the end.

No new magazine that no one has herd of has that many workers all hunting for art.

Their followers that make their accounts look credible are the bots/accounts that they created and some real people.

Somethings not right and doesn’t add up.

  • Raul

Shit can’t be more sad reading all these comments. I think I have been also robbed by these guys. I found it all very weird but anyway went in and sent my stuff and paid the 30 dollars to enter the competition. Now I think as I haven’t heard anything that this mag doesn’t exist and that all this is been a scam. I am sorry for everyone who has gone through the this. I am still thinking that they might contact me finally but I haven’t heard from them. Shit shit shit!!!

  • Merrisa

Wow, I saw that one of you said that carolyn told you the deadline to pay and submit was Feb 28th but she literally told me March 25th in the email I received yesterday. I was thinking this was gonna be great exposure for my business, not anymore. Thank God I decided to Google her name and found this!

  • Anonymous

    Hi,

I have received the same email.
But after some searching on the internet, I thought it was suspicious.
I emailed them back and asked where I can buy the magazine.
For example in Amsterdam in a gallery I received an answer.
I contacted that gallery and they had never heard of that magazine. When I confronted them through e-mail, I did not get an answer.
After a few days again an email that I have only two days left to submit my work.
    Sorry but this stinks.

  • Pamela Iv

I was contacted ny Instagram also but i think they dont exsist.
I payed 30$ for 4 photo of my work and now, constantly receive a mail for other, new, submissions and photo and, naturally a payment.
    Be carefull guys.
    It is cheating!!

    • Pamela Iv

If they dont rispond me until the end of march, like they said i will block them on Instagram, on LinkedIn, on Facebook and wherever i found they name.
It is the only possibility and i will let ypu know.
      Be carefull.

  • MuRi

I received that (unsolicited) invitation too.
    I wouldn’t say it’s a real scam, I would call it a vanity gallery.
They really have a magazine (https://issuu.com/1340art), a gallery, a blog, IG … too much work for a $20 scam 🙂
It’s up to you (and your ego 🙂 to choose if it is worth $20!

  • Jillian

I’ve had the exact same emails and was approached via Instagram. I was so excited to submit my work, but now reading the reviews and it being a possible scam, I have decided not to enter…plus I didn’t really want to have to pay a fee for a competition with little information on.

  • Jolanta

I have been contacted by them too , even I’m not a professional artist, just like to draw . They got an instagram page with wey few publications, its makes me doubt, they are legit . Also their deadline for sending more images and payment is different for different people. I think it’s scam, imagine how many people they reach and if third part of them pay 20 -30$ , they making good money . There also no actual magazine or publications made as far i looked , couldn’t found anything. Don’t pay to them , better donate 20$ to some charity .

  • Anonymous

I too was contacted. I submitted my first imagine then got a follow up saying I’ve been entered into the final competition. I was so excited and wanted to submit but now I’m not too sure if I should or not

  • JP

They have contacted me before and I ignored it once. They contacted me again and this time I gave it a shot. I feel a little bit odd about it, but I went and looked for some of the featured artists some of them I found some I didn’t. The ones I did find some had videos of them with the actual magazine and their work in it. Other artists that they name dropped had substantial followings, but no trace of any interaction with 1340. I also went all the way back to their first post and it was March 28, 2017 and I think the magazine is a fairly new development. The creative director is on instagram I looked at the preview of the current issue, seems to be a real person interested in the arts. I’m getting the feeling that worst case scenario you lose $30 and it’s just a fairly new “vanity gallery magazine” as someone termed, which I think is pretty accurate. In the copyright section in the call for artists they are upfront about being royalty free etc. I think their business model is definitely skewed in their favor for sure. I also think their numbers about the size of their audience are probs bs too. Would I do it again, I’d say no. I’ll update y’all on anything else I find and what not. Be safe out there my fellow artists.

  • a

I think.. The scam works the following way.. they contact all sorts of small artists regardless of how good or bad they are from Instagram. They go for people with fewer followers, because they know they’re looking for publicity. The initial submission is for free.. and to enter the actual competition you have to pay 30$… surprise… they never let you go, I still receive emails asking me to please please please submit, deadlines being extended and so on.
There’s no art curator called Carolyn Tait.. and they make a few good dollars a day at the expense of those who bite.
    beware

  • AnneM

Wow… it’s a shame, I too received the message and at first you feel ‘lucky’ and ‘excited’, but then that little voice is …. saying… are they wanting money from you, to find out they do. ..and let’s be honest, it’s not that much, but if they contacted 100 people that’s $3000 if we all paid. I understand it’s their business but if I was them I would have had a FREE competition allow those to enter it and the top 5 get have the opportunity to be entered into a PAID to enter competition. As I know nothing about this person whose contacted me albeit their website does look professional, by noticing a generic email being sent to most people by the HOOK they get us on Instagram, which then with the algorithm will keep us locked into future emails of those that ‘clicked to look’ and those ‘that clicked and PAID’.
As it would have been my first completion to enter, I’ve decided to decline their offer and search for free competitions and later, I suspect I will enter paid competitions that people recommend and have a gallery to show. I can see this website by Carol was created in 2017 so I imagine in it’s infancy stages and if this is genuine, I can imagine the work that has gone into it behind the scenes that by getting people to paid a token fee to enter she will be able to grab a return back. However, what happens in April 2018 with the printed magazine and online magazine I guess the person above in the comments who has paid will be able to tell just how well they’ve done and I truly wish them the best of luck. On this occasion I may end of kicking myself for being so dubious however, it’s not about the money for me it’s about learning to identify the difference between a genuine paid competition and an ingenious one.

Today I think I’ll go buy myself something for my $30.00 as a treat so I have something to show for it come April 2018 when I research the end result of the this magazine competition.

I was contacted recently, someone from 1340 comment on my unfinished work, and said about their website.I check it and interested but want to make sure it’s not scammer… found this link via google, but there are some website that give good review to the page. I guess I wanna try it, although if they ask for money I won’t give any… LOL. 30$ is a lot for me, don’t have that much money, I could buy food for a week in my country.

    Hello everyone,
Thanks Goodness for the Internet, and for websites likes this one!
Last evening I received exactly the same email from Carolyn Tait. At first I felt flattered, but then my other – “sceptical I” got in charge, and I did a bit of online research. Result: I deleted Carolyn’s email and will ‘unfollow’ all their ‘agents’ on Instagram!

Hey yeah I’ve just had the same e.mail asking for more samples of my work…..
Thought I’d check out the magazine to see what type of stuff they’re into & found u guys here.
I don’t understand why we should pay to have our work in a magazine, we’re worth more than that!
    Thanks for the insight

I was recently contacted. I told them flat out that my work is copyrighted and I am not paying them for anything. Further nothing would be done without my Lawyer getting involved. A BIG SCAM.

  • Marcia

I was also approached by them, but after a little research decided not to submit. They have continued to ask me but I decided no, just a gut reaction. There are a lot of scams out there… I don’t trust this one so I go with my intuition, “No, thank you.”

Is normal to pay a small fee in competitions…we just don’t know if this competition is real 🙂 The last email I received is this
      Hi

      Thank you for your email.

We will announce the winners on the last week of March 2018.
We will email everyone directly regarding the result and will post on social media.

Please contact me should you need any further assistance.

They contacted me too. I did the free one and they asked for the competition which was the fee for $30. When I talked to my older brother about it he said its normal for people to charge fees for competitions because it takes time out of peoples day. I’ve heard its and I’ve heard its not. I paid only to see what happened and they just emailed me saying that im in the final round for the competition and winners are announced next month. I just constantly look at the emails and then look at the website, usually if one is off (email from website) thats a good inidcator that its a scam. They even said how people are pretending to be them on linkdin and they mainly focus on instagram and they directly come to you. I got noticed on instagram and did investigating before initially going for it.

    – If you check out their consumer reviews on TrustPilot, they average at least 5 consumer reviews a day. No type of business gets that many reviews within a day or two. The scammers are leaving reviews everyday…pathetic.

    – They haven’t posted a single magazine nor do they have a legitimate address to reach them.

    – Their logo is amateur

They wanted to feature my work on their IG so I went on their website to submit a pic w/ watermark. Carolyn Tait (a “curator”), liked it so much that she sent me the following email:

“You still have time (deadline: February 28th) to enter (small fee) the next and final selection-round of our competition, to be featured in the printed version of our quarterly edition of 1340 ART MAGAZINE (Q2 – April 2018). Can you send me more samples of your work using the form in the link below as soon as possible?”

    …I replied “suck my dick”.

I too was contacted by 1340. It was $30. I did pay and upload my pictures. I was contacted and told that I was not selected for the magazine however they would like to represent me for a year for free. I had planned to give it a try but I have since lost that email. They were very nice and got back back to me when they said they would. Since then, it is my understanding that some of the “curators” that have been contacting artist are not really from 1340. Just be careful!

Scam all the way, they search for victims everywhere, contacted even me, a person, who just started learning to draw six months ago – I can’t believe this could be legit…

  • Alison White

I have also been contacted & have read conflicting information. Some saying scam beware, others saying they’re great to deal with??? Hmmmmm. Now the questions is which review/comment is legit?

Got the same message too. While I was looking for other people and their experiences with them, I found this website.
First of all, if they want you, they should pay you not the other way around.

this is the message from 1340 art magazine:
I was just reviewing the Instagram submission you did recently. Based on the quality of your artwork I would like to invite you to
      enter our magazine competition!

This means you will be entered into the next and final selection-round of our competition to be featured in the printed version of April 2018 edition of the magazine.

Please send me more samples of your work as soon as possible using the form in the link below.

Yep, I’ve got the same message from the same person and it seems to be very strange. Anyway, I don’t understand why I have to pay for… I even don’t know for what. And what profit I’ll get with the magazine noone heard about…

I have been approached by several publications and also by people who do online shows. I not found any of these avenues to be fruitful in terms of getting my work in front of people who would be interested. I will pay to enter a show but I won’t pay to have my work on another organization’s website or in another organization’s print publications.
