Arcade Project, M. Charlene Stevens

Unsettled by the fundraiser M Charlene Stevens, owner of Arcade Project, Arcade Project Curatorial and Arcade Zine has put up. Charlene positions herself as a constant victim but is entirely unprofessional, nasty and selfish. She owes money to dozens of people including myself, a BIPOC and will lash out if called out on. Charlene cannot secure a job because of her troublesome demeanor and entitlement. Do not work for or with Charlene.

I’m amazed Charlene has continued getting away with her scams for as long as she has. It’s basically impossible to confront her. But make no mistake, she rips off everyone no matter their background. She will enter into a business relationship with someone as a consultant, client, or curator, and then she will obliterate all professional and personal boundaries. She’s not emotionally stable, and that plays a big role in her decision making. Ultimately, you will end up losing money, one way or another. She owes countless people money, loans that she never intended to payback. She also does a lot of shit-talking about others, accusing them of the same disloyalty and shady behavior she’s guilty of herself. But she never tells the full story, she leaves out important details about why her collaborators are unhappy. What’s sad is how many people have believed her and enabled her to continue this bullshit. She will dangles the promise of Hyperallergic coverage or a solo exhibition in front of eager artists, so they’ll agree to work with her. Maybe they’re naive or maybe they’re using her too, but it keeps the cycle going. If the art community just stopped feeding into the nonsense, she’d need to face the consequences of her actions.
