I smelled a rat and dodged the bullet. Artists would be well advised to do the same.
Dmitry was hot to trot and talked big, name dropping global designers, “millions” in sales, etc. His galleries are in shopping malls … and he wants a 60% commission.
During an hour and a half on the phone – literally 90 minutes – where Dmitry blew his own horn repeatedly, I expressed very clearly the terms under which I would consider showing – which did not include a 60% gallery commission. He tried to con me with a consignment agreement that did not include any of the things I specified and that did not even specify a commission.
Judging by Dmitry, Ukraine’s reputation for corruption is well deserved.
