ShockBoxx Gallery, Hermosa Beach, CA

Anybody have any experience with the above? There’s some shady stuff on CaFE.

When picking up a painting from this gallery, my painting was damaged and when asked I asked about it I was told this happens “all the time” over the past few years so that was very concerning to hear.I was compensated which I appreciate but I was then accused of defacing my own work which is insulting and unprofessional, considering that in their video showcasing the gallery prior to the opening night, my painting is damaged.

Shockboxx does it right. Artists juror the shows by committee. Welcoming to local and national artists with great supportive community, PLUS Shockboxx sold my large painting, and I was paid immediately.

I have submitted to several ShockBoxx CAFE shows and have had nothing but positive experiences. Professional, responsive, flexible and also super fun. They have an awesome team of artists and I love what they are showing at the gallery. The zoom openings are literally the best I have ever participated in. Nothing but good things to say about this gallery.

Nothing but positive things to say about Shockboxx gallery in Hermosa Beach. I’ve participated in many shows, both bought and sold art and never had any issues. They seemed to be getting a lot of attention in the art world right now, and have a strong artist community building around the gallery. Cafe has worked for me as well, I say do your due diligence when you apply for things, make sure it’s a place that best serves your work, and don’t expect miracles.

Shockboxx is totally legit and good people. It is an artist run space and they work very hard to make their shows cool. FYI Cafe charges a lot of money to post calls so IMO not realistic to expect galleries to pay that money and not recoup it.

I had a wonderful experience with ShockBoxx box gallery and Cafe Listings. I won a competition at ShockBoxx and they sent me the money immediately. Also they’re very fun to deal with.
Cafe Listings is a great place for international exhibitions etc…

You should report anything to call for entry. Org so they know what’s going on. There are a lot of shock box entries for electrical boxes around the nation. But this sounds like the name of a gallery. I never enter a show on call for entry that requires an entry fee. If they can’t afford to put on the show without an entry fee then they can’t afford to sell my art.

I have found CAFE to be a reliable source of information for exhibitions. I haven’t seen anything about Murze, so I’m no help there, but I support CAFE and have never had any bad experiences with exhibits I’ve entered through their service.
